SWITCH ON THE MOON
Last Aveek I put in an article out of "Tlie Scout" AA'ith this for a heading, and you probably wondered why the heading Avlien there Avas 110 mention made of the moon. AVeil, the reason was that there was no space to fiDish the talk on effects for indoor camptire scenes. Now for the "moon" and "stars." All you need is a wooden or cardboard box about eighteen inclies square and a feAV inches in depth. Draw the moon and a few stars on the tront panel, and cut the shapes out. Line the ineide of 'the panel with pale yelloAV paper or some tliin cotton material. An clectric arc cycle lamp placed in one corner of the box will give ample illumination. Should your fancy demand a clolid to be pass^ng over the moon, a pieco of cotton wool pasted in l'ront will do the trick. If you AA'ant the stars to twinkle, you will have to fix a separate bulb behind them with a length of flex lianguig down from the box. Hold the battery in one liand, and oooasionally scrapo the bare endw of the flex across the ternimal strips. This will eause the bulb to fiickcr on, and thus make the stars appear to tAvinkle. Shoilld you adopt the "tAvinkling star" mcthod, you will have to indke a partition ifi tho box to screen the light from the moon, otherwise that will twinkle as Avell. Some of you electriciau scouts will probably be able to devise a better method of making twinkling stars, but this will give you some idea to start with. I have never seen such extras to an indoor eamp-fire but t,hey should make things seem a lot barter than the plain electrlc camp-ilre.
