Parking Regulations at Waipukurau Must Be Observed

(From

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. "Probably the worst ieaturC is the number of people who park on the corners. Inspector W. E. Yates saw me yesterday about it and suggested that now the streets had been marked out it might be just as well to wam the motorists and the publie generally that the inspectors will be ' on the job ' after tho end of the year; and that they think sufficient warning has now been given. So I expect they will handle it then. " The above remarks were passed by the town clerk, Mx H. B. Smart, at tho monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council last night, during u discuesion on enforcing the traffic regulations in the borough. The diseussion arose from the following paragraph in Mr Smart 's report: — "Traffic and Parking Signs: The painting of the pedestfian crossings has been compieted except at the theatre corner, which will be compieted wheh Kitchener street is sealed. The parallel marking on the northern side of Ruataniwha street is not yet compieted, but will be attended to as soon as possible. Motorists generally are respecting the traffic signs, although several have been warned for comnnting a breach of the regulations, and it appears that the time has atrived when proceedings should be taken against offenders without further notice. " The Muyor, Mr I. W. N. Mackie, said motorists did things in Waipuku'farn that they, would not dfeam of doing in otlier places. They ignored markings that were quite obvious. He him'self had been cautioned in Hastings and Palmerston North, in one case almost before his -ar had stopped. Mr Smarl .nentioned that that afternoon two cars had been parked on a 'bus stand. with the result that the 'bus had to stop in tho middle Of the road. Mr J. C. Windle remarked that thero wero so many business entrances culverts aUd benzine pumps on tha northern side of the main street that there were few parking places available.
