BUTTER SHORTAGE IN LONDON
Although the amount of New Zealand butter atored in London has recovered from the sharp reduction which took place in the previous week, suppliqs o£ all butters at the end of last week were particulaTly short. The estimate made by the Imperial Economic Committee of the total quantity in store was only 197,659 boxes, or about a quarter pf the total at he same time last year, 782,965 boxes. This is an exceptionally low figure. After suffering severe setbaeks to its production throughout last season and the early part of the current season, Australia is now recovering to normal. Dairy production is steadily improving in most New South Wales districts and present conditions point to a good season. Export gradings are very substantially higher than last year's flgures. In Yictoria, the weather has been hot and dry, and good rains would be welcoined in most dairying centres. Output appears to be stationary. In Queensland, the weather continues cool and showery. All districts report good growth and every prospect of very high production. Export gradings have reaehed the highest point for this season, and are very much in excess of those of the corresponding period last year.
