HASTINGS GALA FETE
Popular Proposal for the New Year NUMEROUS ATTRACTIONS Arrangements for the monster gala fete at Nelson Park, Hastings, on December 30 and 31 next are well under way, and, from the response given to date, it is obvious that the' proposal has been greeted with the general approval of all sections of the community. "Th& idea of having some speeial attraction in Hastings during the holiday period is a splendid one," was one consenr passed, and is a f air criterion of tne opinions of a number of people. "Certainly we have not experiencet) any diffieulties in making our arrangements," said Mr G. E. G. Eogers, ik« organising seeretary, when questioned about the reaction to the proposal. "It is our intention to introduee a number1 of new 'stunts' and ideas that have not been triecl in Hastings or this district before, and judging from the respons* that has eome to hand already, it cer1tainly appears that the fete is going to be popular and a big sueeess." » The fete is being arranged by ths Hastings and District Rrogress Leaguc, in colaboration with Ihe Hastings Citizens Band, both of which organisations are giving an all-the-yea?-round service to the community and justly deserve support. Among the many items included ou the programmes for the two nights of the fete will be a fireworks display with illuminated fire balloons, a epeotaele that will be new to this district, while there will be riding a motorcycle, and also a horse, through a hoop oi flames. There will be plenty of sideshows and places of amusement, including the cliairoplane, merry-go-round and shadowgraph, while Nelson Park Is to be speeially decorated for the occasion. The climax comes at midnight on thc second night of the fete when speeial festivities will be arranged to great the coming of tho New Year,
