Mr. A. E. Flower, for many years master at Christ's College, Christchurch, N will retire at the end of this year. Eev. J. T. Holland, elder son of tlie Bishop of Wellington, arrived by the Rangitane with his wife to take up an appointment as vicar of Featherston. Ve-y Eev. Monsignor MacManus, who has been on an extended holiday abroad, has returned to New Zealand. He arrived at Wellington on Thursday. Mr. J. H nry, wlio succeeds Mr. T. A. Morland as senior inspector of schools in the Hawke's Bay Education Board 's distriet, will take up his duties 011 March 1, 1938. Mr. T. C. . Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, replying to a deputation of reprpsentative citizens, announced his willingness to again contest the Mayoralty next May. Sir Richard Ranlcine, K.C.M.G., arrived at Wellington in the Rangitane from London, aecompanied by Lady Ranlcine. He was British Resident at Zanzibar till his recent retirement from the Colonial Service. Mr. Somerset Playne, The Chase, Maple, Durham, arrived at Wellington by the Rangitane on Thursday, aecompanied by Mrs. Playne. They are at present visiting Fairfield, Hawke's Bay, and will later visit Rotorua. The late Mr. William Dinwiddie was re&rred to by all the Bpeakers at the annual prize-giving at the Napier Boys' High School yesterday as the man who had done much for secondary education in Hawke's Bay, and whose loss was keenly felt. Dr. J. A. Stalhvorthy, formerly of Auckland, who was recently appointed first assistant at the Nuffield Medical Research Institute at Oxford, has just completed a speeial mission to Vienna, Berlin, Stockholm and other Continental centres and has returned to London. Mr. N. M, Richmond, director of the Workers' Educational Association at Auckland and formerly tutor-organiser in Hamilton, has resigned, having been appointed director of tutorial elasses and lecturer in economic history at the University of Queensland. He was a Rhodes Scholar in 1919. Mr. Eobert Climie, formerly of Hastings, who direeted some of the principal engineering works of the borough some twenty years ago, has for the past four years been in charge of the undertakings of a mining company in Central Otago. This work is now nearing completion and Mr. Climie is making plans for returning to one of the centres.
