TEN COMMANDMENTS OF MARRIAGE
Herr Hitler's Rules
THE organ of the national-socialist Medical Association publishes the new version of the "Ten Commandments for the choice of a mate," as drafted hy the Beich's Department of Health. There is nothing remarkable abont the principles as such, but the commentator stresses the fact of their having been submitted to aiid approved by the Ministry of War, for widespread distribution among the army, navy and air force. 1. "Eemember that you are a Ger- • inan, You aie what you are not through merits of your own, but jlhrough those of your people. Therefore in all your actions consider the commonweal first." 2. "Keep mind and soul clean! Stay away from all that is spiritually alien Jto you or repugnant to your temperajnenf. Bewara of all that your conscience warns you against! All too often, unfortunately, the prospect of jnoney or pleasure causes a person to forget it." 3. "Keep your body clean! The pleasure of a passing moment may permanently endanger your health and ,that of your children and become a curse to you, your children and grandehildren. Act yourself as you would expect your future mate to act! Bemember that you will become an ancestor of Germansl" 4. "You should not remain single if you are hereditarily healthy. He Who remains single without a good xeason for doing so breaks the chain of generations. Your own life is limited in time, but your clan and your people live on. Your physical and spiritual heritage will be revived in $hem,"
5. "Do not marry without love. 6. "As a German, choose a mate only of your own or a kindred race. Only where temperaments and dispositions blend is there harmony. "Where different races mix there is disharmony, which leads to the degeneracy and decline of individuals and peoples. The Nordic strealc is a tie that binds all Germans. You are part of it and it is your sacred duty to guard it. " 7. "In selecting a mate for yourself, find out all about the forefathers. You do not marry a mate but also a family and ancestors. Valuable and sound posterity may be hoped for only if there be an equally valuable ancestry. Nothing is more precious than the seed of a noble race. A contaminated heredity will produce nothing good. Never marry the one good member of a bad family!" 8. "Health is the premise even of physical beauty. It offers the best guarantee for lasting happiness, for it is also the premise of spiritual haTmony. Before marrying, submit to a medical examination for fitness and have your future mate do likewise." 9. "When you decide to marry, choose a companion and not a playmate. The purpose of marriage is to rear healthy offspring. Only if two people be well mated, physically, morally and racically can this supren^ goal be achievbd, for every race has a soul of its own, and only kindred souls understand each other." 10. "You should desire as many children as possible. Only children guarantee the continuity of a people. You will pass away; what you leave to posterity remains. Your people live on xorever. ' ' \
