NAPIER FLOOD MEMORIAL

The Napier Borough Council has received an emphatic protest from the Hawke's Bay Art Society against the spoiling of the Elood Memorial, which the society considers, is "an architectural gem". They think no sober motorist could find it the least obstruetion, but suggest that the steps be made good again and small white posts be put at the corners. These could have refleetors in the tops which, while be-, ing a detriment to the beauty of the monument, would not look permanent. The society considers the memorial deserves a site north of the paddingpool, so it would close in the central avenue of trees recently planted, where, it could have its posts and chains Teplaced and its clipped trees replanted. At Tlmrsday's meeting the council decided to adopt the suggestion of making good the steps and erecting small white posts and red refleetors at the -corners.
