VALEDICTORY

fe. R. L. McNIVEN Over 50 members and supporters of the Hastings Golf Club assembled at the County Club rooms last evening to participate in the farewell gatheringto Mr. R. McNiven, who has resigned the office of secretary of the club to take up a similar position at Middlemore, Auckland. Dr. R. Cashmore, president, on behalf of the club members and the committee, presented to Mr. McNiven a radio set as a token of the esteem and respect in which he was keld and also as aii indication of the appreciation felt for his services to the club as secretary. Dr. Cashmore expressed regret that the club was to lose an effiedent and popular member, but expressed gratification that Mr. McNiven had been successful in obtaining his new and important position, and wished him and his family every success and happiness in the future. Other speakers, including Messrs. W. J. White, E. T. Gifford and J. Leggat, also spolce in eulogistic terms of the fine service that Mr. McNiven had given the club and also of kis popularity with members. Mr. McNiven suitably replied, and, following tke singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow, " his health and success for tke future was konoured in a ^anner befitting to suck an occasion.
