Dux Prizes and Medals Presented Dux prizes and medals for progress in school work during the year, were presented in a short eeremony at the Hastings Central School yesterday afternoon, by the chairman of the committee, Mr W. H. Bennett. There was a small attendance of parents at the function, and they were afterwards invited to witness the annual Christmas tree eeremony for the primer classes. The headmaster, Mr H. Parker-Smith, introduced Mr Bennett, and referred to the prizes about to be presented. In addition to the prizes of books for the dux and runner-up, there were two silver medals, generously presented by Mr E. Y. Suckling, to the boy and girl in any class, who liad made the most progress in their school work during the year. Mr Bennett, after a Bhort address, in Avhieh he referred to the worth of the prizes, more particularly those for progress in work, presented the prizes. They were: Dux, Norman Stokes; ruu-ner-up, Ronald Bacon; Suckling medals: Boy, Waler Shaw, standard 4; givl, June Larsen, Form 1. It was then announced that Mr Suckling had generously offered two medals for similar purposes next year, and in aclv.-uion, two medals for the boy and the girl who made most progress in swimming by tlie end of tlie swimming season next year. The annual Christmas tree gathering for tlie primers was them held, each of the small children receiving a present.
