The final meeting of the year of the Hastings Borough Council was hela last evening, the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maudison, presiding over Crs. P. M. Cohr, T. Dobson, P. E. Eoach, T. Falconef, C. H. Slater, S. J. McKee, G. W. B, McCormick and A. I. Rainbow. Leave >f absence was granted Cr. S. Ash croft. # « • Last month there were 5304 visitors to the Hastings Women 's Rest and tho receipts totalled £17 3/3. Gifts of bundles of magazines are acknowledged from Mrs Phillips, Havelock North, and Mrs Richardson sen., Haumoana. *. * # There are now 3556 water connee tions in the borough service, five sewer and seven water connections having been laid on last month. * « • Application was made by Mr R. A. Boag for a footpath to be constructed in front of his property in Selwood road. A donation of £2 2/- to the Hawke's Bay Labourers' Union picnie fund was agreed .upon. • « • Borough offices dre to be closed from Deceniber 25 to January 3 inclusive. The usual arraugements are to be made tor the staff annual leave and a suliicient skeleton staff is to remain on duty during Christmas week, and until the officers on leave return to duty. • # • All rates unpaid at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16 next, will carry £in additional charge of 10 per cenc. The attachment of this penaity was decided upon by the council last evening in aecordance with the usual procedure. * * « There are now 1450 adult and 542 juvenile subscribers to the Hastings Public Librarv. Last month £67 7/3 was banked and 240 new books were placed on the shelvee.
