GETTING READY FOR THE START
People are already preparing for the start of the New Year. They will start off with a light heart to enjoy themselves, and it will be a family affair, for folk do not leave their families at home on New Year's Day. There ar.e, strange to say, few attractionS on New Year's Day, for the day has become recognised as being essentially a day to meet old friends at one particular meeting plaeo. For many years the Ongaonga sports meeting has been the place where town and country meet. The coming sports meeting is a jubilee of the sports club and tliri-e are jubilee prizes in all sections. Eutries for the running events (100, 220, 440, 880, 1 mile, ladies' 75 and 100 yards, relay), cyeling (2, 4, 6 and 8 laps), and chopping (novice 12in., o'pen 12in., open 14in., standing, open 14in. underhand), will close with the joint honorary secretaries on Wednesday, 22, at 7 p.m. Napier and Hastings entries may be made with Mr N. A. McKenzie, 87 Vigor Brown street, on Tuesday, December 21.
