PAKOWHAI GARDEN CIRCLE
The garden circle of the Pakowhai Women's Instituto held their final meeting of the year at the home of Mrs A. Brown. Mrs Mitchell, circle leader, welcomed two visitors. The best bloom competition took the form of a vase of sweet pcas, The flowers were judged by Mrs Walter Wright, who gave an interesting talk on how to judge and grow SAveet peas. The competition resulted: Mrs Howard 1, Mrs Mitchell 2, Mrs Brunton 3. Mrs Wright kindly donated a first and a second prize for this competition. Mrs Brown, who is shortly leaving the district, was presented with a lovely vase of flowers, Mrs Mitchell re-
markiivg how sorry everyone was to say farewell. Mrs Brotfn suitably responded. A memory test competition was won won by Mrs A. Bartle, who received a dainty gift supplied by the hostess. When afternoon tea had been served, members took the opportunity of looking round the garden.
