Executive Meets at Napier problem of weckets The executive of. the Hawke's Bay Cricket Association, -at the monthly meeting iu Napier last evening, decided to ask the Napier Borough Council to have the McLean Park wiekets prepared for representative matches during tbe liolidays. A discussion took place on the Borough Counci.'s actxon in raising tbe ground reixts from £100 to £125 per annum. Mr. H. H. Wylie, a member of tbe deputation wbicb waited on tbe Reserves Committee to ask for a reduetion to tbe old rate, reported tbat they had been. assured that tbe matter would be considered, but jt bad also been suggested, as a possible belp to cricket finances, that tbe. association charge for admission to McLean Park and sliare tbe gates with tbe council. Tbe deputation hoped that tbe full reduction would be made. The chairman, Mr. V. N. Hawke: It we go on at tlie present rate, we'II liave to go out of cricket in a few years. Mr. Wylie suggested tbat some of tbe holiday matches be played on McLean Park so the association could have the benefit of tbe "gate." Mr. F. Watty did not consider tbat tbe wiekets there were sufficiently good for representative cricket, and several members were of -tbe opinion tbat tbe outfield was a bit bumpy, but it was agreed tbat, with a little preparation, tlie wiekets could be uscd for some of the games, and Mr. Wylie moved that fhe council be notified that the association wanted to use McLean Park, and asked to get tlie grounds ready. Mr. B. Mahony moved an amendment to the effect that tbe council be asked to prepare wiekets for two games at eacli park. This was agreed upon, and it was decided to notify tbe council that tbe association desires fo use McLean Park og. December 27 and 28 and January 1 an$ 3, tbe grounds committee to decide wbicb matches are to be played there. A lady supporter of the game wrote 1 pointing out tbat, now tbat tbe gates at Nelson Park were closed on a Saturday and seats were not to be bad, it was most inconvenient for spectators, who would be much more comfortable if they could drive in and sit in their cars. Mr. V. N. Hawke said be had suggested tbat discs sliould be placed in front of No. 1 pavilion, -but apart from tbat, be thought cai's should b« permitted so spectators could watcb in cowfort. Tbe matter was refered to Mr. R. M. Chadwick to take up witb tbe Borough Council. A letter from tlie Manawatu Cricket Association inl'ormed tbe meeting that, owing t'o the little time available for organisation, and -tbe clasli witb tbe Hawke Cup niatcli at Christmas, the jumior tournament could not be held in Palmerston North this year. Tbe ■ chairinan expressed regret at tbe communication. Hastings, be said, bad been looking I'orward to this fixtftre. Ile considered tlie excuse offered rather a poor one. Tbe secretary, Mr. E. Elliott, said Hastings would possibly be able to run tbe junior cricket week nexb vear, and, on Mr. Wylie's motion, it was decided to write to Manawatu, cxpressing rcgret at tbe cancellation of tbe fourney and stating that it was hoped to be able to revive it in Hawke's Bav uext season. "That's very satisfactory," coxnmented thc chairmaD, wbon a letter
was read from the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, agreeing to play a Kirk Cup matcb with' Hawke's Bay if it could be worked in in conjunction with the Hawke Cup match in- Palmerston, it was decided to reply tbanking Poverty Bay and expressing the hope that the Kirk Cup match would eventuate.
