WEDDING

Bacchus — Crompton-Smith The wedding was quietly celebrated in Hastings yesterday afternoon of Nancy Ashworth, only daughter of Mr Sidney Crompton Smith, of Havelock North, and GeorgetRudolf, only son of Mrs John Ellis, of Auckland, and thb late Mr Lancelot Bacchus, of Manakau. The bride is a granddaughter of the late Mr S. Percy Smith, of New Ptymouth, the New Zealand historical writer and Maori scholar. The bride wore a model suit of deep blue matelasse with bolero coat and blonse of navy silk figured with horizontal design in Oriental shades. With this she wore a sinart little hat of navy silk straw with roll brim and navy accessories, and carried a lovely bonquet of tiniest rose pink arum lilies, pink carnations and maidenhair feru, with pink streamers. ^ After the ceremony- an informal afternoon tea was held at Havelock N., when relatives and closest friends of the bride and bridegroom were able to wish them every happiness for the future. The guests were received by the bride 's aunt, Miss Crompton Smith, and also her father. Miss Crompton | Smith wore a froek of Jiglit navy biuo mariette beaded with ivory beads, aud a three-quarter matehing coat. Her hat was of light nvv blue straw, and she carried a bouquet of apricot roscs. The bridegroom 's motb, Mrs John Ellis, was also present, and wore an ensemble of black chiffon with cape effeet and full sleeves embroidered wit h solf-coloured spots. Her hat was also black. Mr Percy Crompton Smith, tlio bride's brother, was also among tbc guests. The reception rooms were beautifully decorated witb bowls of roses aud pink sweet peas were arrauged on the bridal table on which stood the twotiered ereqm and silver wedding cake, topped with a tiny vaso of rosebuds. The toast to the bride and bridegroom was proposed by the bride's imcle,, Mr Bernard Crompton Smith. The brid eand bridegroom later left for a short honeymoon before sailing for England on December 28. Mr and Mrs George Bacchus will live in EngIan.d for about two. j.ears,
