SUITABLE FOR PLAY
Cornwall Park Wickets Since a eommitte of the Hawke's Bay Cricket Association visited Cornwall Pasrk to investigate the United Club's recent complaint that the wickets there were not fit for playing senior cricket, the association has formed the opinion that the wicket is nothing worse than a tricky one and is quite fit for play. When the matter came up for discussion at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Hawke's Bay Cricket Association last night, Mr Bowland said he did not see how the United Club's protest could be upheld in any way. The wickets, in his opinion were quite suitable. Certainly they were not in such a bad condition as to warrant the stopping of senior cricket. Mr B. J. Mahony held that the wickets were not dangerous— only tricky. The chairman, Mr V. N. Hawke, said the wickets were improving every day. However, he understood the Sub-Asso-ciation would take the matter up with the Hastings Borough Council. Mr Bowland suggCsted tliat the secretary should reply to the United Club, saying that a eommittee from the association had been over to inspect the wickets, and had left the Hastings SubAssociation to make any possible arrangement for their improvement. Mr Y. T. Rouse did not consider that an adequate answer to the complaint and, on his motion, it was deeided to inform the United Club that, in the opinion of the executive of the association, the wickets were in a fit condition for play.
