TEACHERS' FAREWELL PARTY TO MR T. MORLAND & FAMILY

Members of the Napier branch of the Teachers' Institute gave a delightful farewell party to Mr T. Morland, senior inspector of the primary schools of Hawke's Bay. A bouquet of sweet peas, roses and maidenhair i'ern was presented to Mrs Morland, who was tendered inusical honours by the teachers. ' Mr Gilchrist, president of the Napier branch of the Teachers' Institute, who was accompauied by Mrs Gilchrist2 welcomed Mr and Mrs Morland and family, and congratulated the guest of lionour on his promotion to senior inspector of the Otago district, and expressed regret that Hawke's Bay was losing his services. During the evening musical and elocutionary iterns were given oy Misses Noni and Rena Morland (accompanied by Miss Jean Morland), Enid Aislabie, Va'erie Lewis^and Mr Marshall. Two amiusing competitions' were also beld, the winners being Mr T. Rowe and Mr D. Storkey, The president said how sorry the institute was at losing the services of Miss Morland, who was a cominittee member, and spoke in glowing terms of her capabilities. On behalf of the teachers, Mr Gilchrist presented Mr Morland with a set of golf clubs. Mr Morland thanked all present for the delightfu'l evening he had spent in their company, for the tributes paid to his wife and family, and for t'ie happy thoughts expressed about hiun elf and his worlc. He expressed regret that promotion necessitated leaving the sunny days of Napier and the many friends made during his five years' stay in the district. He said that he felt overwhelmed at the generosit3>- of the gifts given to liim, and hoped that he woulcl be able to do them credit. He mentioned that the standard of education in the Hawke's Bay schools was something of which the teachers could be justly procd. A savoury supper was then served and the evening closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne. "
