LIVING COSTS UP, NOT DOWN

Dur Own Correspondent.)

Labour Government's Promises Criticised COMPARISON OF FIGURES

(From

MASTERTON, Last Night. Speaking at Pirinoa, Mr. A. B. Sievwright, Wellington, referring to the increasing cost of living, recaiied that at the last election, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, issued a circular in his electorate in Christchurch. He promised a reduced family budget, and gave the following table : —

VMr. Sievwright then. quoted the folloAving table as being the actual result after two years of Labour in o'ffice : —

"So far, therefore, from reduction in, the cost of groceries, the housewife finds that the costs have risen, and will possibly rise further under the Labour Party's administrative and legislative programme," said Mr. Sievwright. So far the cost of these groceries enumerated had been increased as the result of the Labour Party's administration, 1 and Mr. Sullivan had promised that the housewife's grocery bills would be reduced by 5/- in the £ inside of two mtinths of Labour' s accession to the Treasuiy Benches. Was it any wonder that the people of the Dominion were losing all faith in the Government?
