MID-WEEK CRICKET

'Will0AV.:")

Claims for Consideration in H.B. Selection PLAYERS OF ABILITY

(By'

West End's reply to Heretaunga's first innings Avas 1../ runs. This enabled Heretaunga to make West End follow on, when their score reached only 88. This gave Heretaunga a fourpoint 'j^in. BATTIKG HOKOUES. SHEEEATT (West End) 53 & 45 TUKKICLIFFE (Methodist) 30 not out GOSKELL (Methodist) 30 MAETIK (West End) 25 BOWLIKG HOKOUES. SHUKEE (Heretaunga) .... 5 for 10 Mahoney (United) 4 for 16 BEIMMEE (United) 4 for 23 EOUSE (Heretaunga) 4 for 42 In West End's first innings Sherratt (45) and Martin (25) were the chief scorers, while in the second innings Sherratt was the only batsman to reach double figures, making 53 out of their score of 88. Shulcer bowled exceptionally well in the second innings, having the very fine average of five wiekets for ten runs. Eouse again bowled very steadily to take four wiekets for 42 runs. United v. Methodist. The gfime Letween United and Metnodist was over early as only one innings was left to be played, the other three innings being completed the previous Thursday. Methodist were unable to make the 137 runs required to give them an outright win. Kow that Don Wilkins is back playing with this team, much better performances can be expected. Tunnicliffe (30 not out) and Gosnell (30) were the best scorers, both players hitting very hard for their respective runs. Mahoney and Brimmer shared the oowling honours for United. Notes on Play. The writer considers that more attention should be given by the respeetive selectors of both the Hawke s Bav and Hastings Sub-Associations to this Thursday competition. There are players playing in this competition, who have proved themselves to have more right of nomination for the country team to play at Wellington, than some of the players nominated from the Saturday competition whose names went forward for selection. The writer refers mainly to such players as Mahoney, Eouse and Giorgi. Whenever these players have played against outside teams they have proved themselves to be the mainstay of the team they are playing for. For the last few years they have headed the batting list against the Wellington Colts team in the annual match played a|; Easter. The Hawke's Bay Eugby team's selector travels miles to see and select his team, why not the ericket selectors? Considering the consistent failure, by Hawke's Bay to lift the Hawke Cup, a little travelling by the selectors may help them to place Hawke's Bay ericket on the same standard as our football.
