Butchers' Assistants' Wages

AUCKLAND, Last Night. Complete agreement having been reached in conferenee last week, an award covering butchers' employees within a 21-mile radius of Auckland was granted by the Second Arbitration Court in a reserved judgment. A 44-hour week or five and a-half days was renewed, as well as the clause covering closing hours, 4.30 p.m. on five days and noon on the half-day, pork butchers' shops being open till 5.30 p.m. on four days, till 9 p.m. on one day and till noon on the half-day. Butchers' assistants' wages were fixed at from £5 2/6 to £6 5/- a week. A similar scale was made for pork butchers' assistants, the lowest wage being £5 5/-, while the rates for female assistants ranged from £1 15/- to £4 7/6, with a special wage of £6 5/where a female is in charge of a whole shop. The wages of workers in small-goods factories -'ere fixed from £1 15/- to £6 5/, and drivers will ue paid from £4 18/6 to £5 10/6, according to the capacity of their vehieles. The, Tates for casual labour are 3/- an hour for men and 2/- for women. Boys between 15 and 21 years of age will be paid on a scale from £1 5/- to £3 12/6. Ten statutory holidays have been granted, with a provision that holidays falling on a Sunday will be celebrated on Monday. The award will operate for a year from January 1, and it will apply to any subsequent party to become engaged in the industry within the district covered by the award.
