U.S. Pacific Coast Swept STORMS ARE WORST EVER (Received 13, 8.45 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 11. Cities are isolated, shipping endangered, bridges and railroads washed out, numeroug Iiouses destroyed, and communications with many places severed as a result of gales and torrential rains on the Pacific Coast. The situation is worst at Ukiah and Downieville, California, where hundreds have fled to higher ground and all roads are jnuudated. Several rivers are in flood. , The damage so far is estimated at 500,000 dollars. Meanwhile 110 deaths have occurred as a result of the cold wave tkrougbout the country. A Montreal message says : The weather bureau described the storms sweeping the entire Pacific Coast from tliq Mexicau border to the Aleutiau Islands as the w^t ever recorded, and with tlie greatest damage. The danger spot is at Alturascal, where the water is roaring tlxrough the business streets. A large section of Giiroyal js also inundated.
