ULTIMATUM TO MOSCOW
Ditappearance of American Couple DEMAND FOR INFORMATION (Keceived 13, 8.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 11. The Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hullj has made urgent represenrotiona to ' the Kussian Ambassador on behalf of Donald Kobinson, a New York writer, and hjs wife, who have been missing for several days in Moscow. The acfcioa followed the United States Embassy's report that it was unable to obtain clues or definite information from the Russian Foreign Office. htr. Huil summoned M. Troyanovsky mnd denjanded the speediest possible aseerfcainment of the full facts, and the Ambassador expressed confidenee that the information would soon be forthcoming, Senator Copeland urged Senate action.. "I learn that the Government has issued an ultimatum to Moscow, but I dt*i't want tbese people to disappear and then learn five years bence that tbey have been killed,55 he declared. The Senate deferred action after an assurance tbat the State Department was "most liopeful." If the couple have been arrested, it would probably be a cause celebre as tbe first case of its kind involving Americans after the IJnited States' recognition of tbe Soviet.
