SWIMMING
Special Carnival at Mahora BEST FOR SEVERAL YEARS Not for several years has tbe Mahora Swimming Oub staged such a splendid club carnival as the one held laslj evening in aid of the fund for building a swimming baths for the nurs'es at the Hastings Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. Th© carnival was a succesa in every respect, mainly due to the enthusiasm shown by the competitors. Th© weather was ideal for swimming and th© attendanc© was exceptipnally large, the stand being filled to capacity. All th© events wer© well filled and1, iu th© senior men's 50 yards, semi-finals had to be swum. « Several nurses from the Memorial Hospital took part in the events and there were also representatives from the Heretaunga and Havelock clubs present. The racing itself was keen aud some splendid fiuishes were recorded, rousing the spectators to great excitement. A special polo match between Havelock aud Mahora proved an enjoyable wind-up to the programme, the match resultiug ju a draw with two goals each. During the evening Mr. C. Lassen thanked th© spectators and swimmers for their support in making th© carnival such a success and so enabling the Mahora Club to donate the sum of £5 to the fund.
