Guild Member e Eijiov Jolly Christmas Party { 1

The final meeting for this year of the Hastings Townswomen's Guildftook the form of a fancy dress Christmas party, and wao held in the Hastings Gddfellows' Hall last evening. The stage was deeorated wi.th huge bowls of glorious flowers^ pink Hiawatha roses being artistlcally arranged with blne delphiniums, blue and pink larkspurs and copper beeeh foliage and having long trails of asparagus fern. The president, Mrs A. F. Glenny, welcomed everyone and extended to all her wishes for a happy Christmas and very prosperous New Year. She also spoke briefly about the new guild rooin, which will be officially opened with a party towards the end of Febr^ary. Mrs F. Deans, guild seoretary, ieminded everyone that nominations for next year 's committee should be sent to her any time before February 20. The grand mareh presented a very gay scene when people of all nationalities and periods escorted each other round the xapm to tuneful music played by Miss B.~ McHutcEon. There were to be seen lads and lassies, Yictorian men and women, sports enthusi.asts of many rvarieties> Boy Scouts, gypsies, pirates. queens, soldiers and, sailors, fairies, negroes, Chinese, Spaniards and Irish folk and a host of others, who roused the audience to many a laugh. The grand march was followed by a waltz, and at i.ntervals during the evening were a military two-step, excuse-me waltz and a medley, the mqsic being played by Miss McHutchon and Mrs S. I. Jones. The members of each circle of the gnild presented a sketch based on some recent event in the news, and these short current events cleverly aeted received very hearty applause. The country daneing circle chose tne activities of the National Council of Sportj the civic circle. the dog surgery with vaceination free; the arts and crafts circle, the opening of Parlia-

ment; the literary circle, the moving into the first State house; the sunshine circle, a wool sale; the music circle, taking possession of the new Guild Toom; and the social activities circle most appropriately depicted the visit of Father Christmas. This was particularly interesting, as Father Christmas did not come empty-handed; in fact, his knap sack was filled to the brim with small gifts for those who had helped. along the activities of the Townswomen's Guild throughout the year. Among those who were fortunate enough to reeerve a gift were Mesdames A. F. Glenny, F. Deans, Priee, J. B. Pickering. A. C. A. Hyde, Macaulay, Y. L. Westerman, C. P. Hopkins, H. LovellSmith, L. A. Rood, L. W. Goldfinch, S. Jones, T. Hill, F. J. Hull, Crawford; Mi.sses B. McHutchon, E. J. Strang. H. Ford, A. Evans and R. Small. During the evening a musical number game caused much merriment, and also a game of musical parcels, which, was won by Mrs Kirkman. Several country danees by members of the country daneing circle, accompanied by Mrs S. I. Jones, were watched with interest. A very kindly thought prompted the members of the guild to combine a spirit of giving with the pleasure always enjoyed at the Christmas party, and each year the gathering is an opportunity for members to bring a gift for the Hawke's Bay Children 's Home®. As the result of last evening 's party the homes will receive a splendid contribntion in Teadiness for Christmas. the conelusion of the programme supper was enjoyed by everyone, and a happy evening wais brought to a close with many wishes for a very jolly Christmas.
