MONOPOLY CHALLENGED

A battle which will determine whether Pan-American Airways will continue to exert monopolistie control over America's trans-oceanie aviation is being fought behind the scenes, says the New York Daily News Washingtoa correspondent. The Maritime Commission will ask Congress f-^r power to subsidise the deveiopment cf competing airlines, thas breaking up the Pan-American monopoly, It is understood that Coloncl Charles Lindbergh, Pan-America:| Airways' technical adviser, will throw the weight of his great infiuence on bchalf of .the company. The Army and Navy are said to be behind the anti-Pan-Anu-iican movement, since they believe that competition and rivalry among the many Ameficar; lincs concorned In ocean fiying would bring about a gre&ter advance in A.merican avi-iC.on.
