Waipawa Chamber of Commerce Secures Information

•WAIPAWA, Last Night. At the monthly meeting of the Waipawa Chamber of Commerce, the chairman, Mr P. M. Tickner, referring to. the proposal made at the last meeting of the chamber that steps should he taken in the direction of having a swimming baths established at Waipawa, said that certain information had now been secured from the Woodville and Eketahuna borough councils as to the cost of erection. Woodville' had advised that their baths had been erected in 1922 at a cost of £400, which included the dressing cubicles. The caretaker received 10/- per week and all tak.ngs, and the average cost to ihe council over- the past ten years had been £10 11/-. Eketahuna advised that the baths there were now in eourse of erection, and the initial cost would be £1350, of which a subsidy of £800 had been secured for labour. The chairman said he had secured a" rough estimate of the probable cost of excavation and for the conerete work, which would cost in the region of £600. This would not provide for any i buildings. He suggested inquiries be made to see if a subsidy could be secured. On the motion of Mr Eagle, it was decided to get all possible information and to call a public meeting early in the New Year.
