Sir, — In reference to the statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs re "Learn to Swim" Week in your issue of December 1, I have obtained the following figures relating to those pupils Who Will be passing out of Form II. this year from the four town schools of Hastings and from Havelock North. TheSe figures, I am sure, will be of interest to the public geherally and will Show tliat the teaching of swimmiiig is iiot beihg neglected by the teachers of this district. No. of pupils ... 206 Able to swim ... 182 (88.4 p.c.) Of the 24 unable to swim. two are physically unfit andi six are not alloWed to go swimming, leaving 16 (7.7 per cent.) who have not been taught to swim. A number of these, 1 have been assured, will have learnt to swim before the end of the scliool year. — Yours, etc.,
