Railway Porter Gaoled

WELLINGTON, This Day, John William Thompson, aged 19, i Tailway porter, was sent to gaol tot one month by Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M.t on a charge of converting a motor car^ valued at £?50, the property of Arthur, John Curtis. "It was not a case of callow youth," he said. Accused ha® had every opportunity. " Evidence had shown the car was ti new one and that, twice accosted while. in possession of it, accused had maini tained it was his oxvn. Beraard Edward Way, aged 19, ai truck driver, was charged with breaking and catering by day a dwelling at Roseneath, and theft. The evidence of Mrs Painter was that accused was employed for a few days by her husband, whose butchee shop was in the front of their dwelling, He was dismissed when he did not turn. up to work on November 16. She and. her husband were away on the night of Saturday, November 20 and, on returning, they founl the house in tho possession of the police. The police linked up accused with the crime largely by means of finger-prints. Aceused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. Sentence on a further charge of conversion of a cai; at Christchurch on June 21 was deferred till he was dealt^with in th® Supreme Court.
