Beauty Consciousness A Duty
jgEAUTY consciousness is a thing which every woman should develop. In this age, when everyone from the average working girl on a small weekly wage to the wife of a wealthy business man, takes as much care as she possibiy can of her figure, face and coiffure, beauty culture is a duty which every woman owes herself. Overseas experts inform us that this season a close co-operation between dress designer and beauty culturalist is necessary in order to carry off successfully the hard colours we are asked to wear. Powders to harmonise with ensembles may range from purples that change to brown according to the proximity of toning shades; and blues and greens which take in all the semi-tones. The "shocking pink" we hear so much about has a "shock absorber" special "shade of powder to render it harmless. Nail polishes will alter their colqur with due thought for the individual gown, thus avoiding the gruesome effect of past seasons.
Hair, too, is being frankly dyed— either entirely or in contrasting strands — that no pretence at naturalness is attempted. We have already seen the silver strand in the dark hair*» and now we are told that the golden head may carry a brunette strand. The hair must be dressed to com- . plete the theme • of the dress designer, so our coiffures may range from the Victoriari style back through the ages to the fourteenth century and even so far into the past as the Grecian. A beautiful new style sponsored first by Antoine is shown in the first picture. The Greek sculptured curls frame the face and the- hair is finished in a smoQth roll at the nape of the neck. The second illustration shows the "Gamin" or cap line, which moulds the head like a mediaeval cap and is finished with a tuft of soft snailcurls ' on . the f orehead. The third picture on the right shows the popular page boy roll at the back - contrasted with' swept back mercury wings at the temples.
