New Draping Styles
Streamline Effect Windows of homes can by their dressing detract. from or enhance the most beautiful scenery. No little wonder then that the planning of window curtains should be done with as much foresight as is used by women in choosing a frock for a race meeting or a gown for the ball of the season. Every season brings in its train new ideas in curtains, and this year's fashions are as varied as they are lovely. The modern home lends itself admirably to the new tailored curtains," which add a f urther chic note to the general streamline effect. some of the most beautiful of these are of luxurious chenilles and velours in all the latest. colours, fanfcy slubs, satin-faced repps and gorgeous tapestries. • A new departure in curtain- hangings is the introduction of the set of three curtains, which has the added advantage of giving a • spacious appearance to a room. Another interesting innovation is the cross-over fringed curtains, with fringe to match the outside hanging curtains. For instance, if the curtains are of rust velour, the centre net curtains are trimmed with a rust-coloured fringe. Ferhaps the most erciting note of the season is the use of cane pelmets to match the cane suites in sun porches or verandahs. Cottage weaves are still first favourite for verandah curtains. Linens in • fascinating floral patterns promise to he a popular material for curtains which are designed to match the loose covers of chairs and bed covers. Cretonnes and shadow tissue are the most inspiring of all materials for kiddies' rooms and for second bedfooms. Nothing could be more attractive for the treatment of bay windows than the cross-over and hanging curtain effect. The outside curtains should fall to within three inches of the ground, and the net curtains should just reach the window sill, so as to emphasise the distinction between the two types of curtain. Dyeing Olothes. When dyeing clothes at home, li^htly smear the hands with vaseline and wipe v/ith • tissue ' paper - to remove' surplus grease. Dye stains will wash ■ off the bio3s quite euily wkea the job is dose.
