After the flrst series of inatches in the Hastings mid-week cricket competition the position of the teams are: —
BATTING HONOURS Rouse (Heretaunga) Giorgi (Heretaunga) . 84 Brimmer (United) 75 Shattky (Hnited) 8'2 McNab (Hnited) 20 BOWLING HONOURS. Boyle (United) two for none. Wilkins (Methodist) six for 22. Ball (Methodist) seven for 52. Brimmer (United) three for nine. Rosenberg (West End) six for 59. Good Partnership. Heretaunga at present are in a vory sound position in their m&tch with West End, this is due to a great partnership between Rouse and Giorgi, these two batsmen putting 148 runs on theb oard for the second wicket. It ia also pleasing to see a number of the other members scoring doubie flgnros. Rosenberg again proved himself as the mainstay of the West End attack by taking six wickets for 59 runs. West End have a ,big obstacle in front of them to make 268 runs to win, having at the present timo two wickets down for 42. Umited's Performance. United batting flrst made 136 runs, Brimmer playing a fine knock of 75, being caught out by. a magniflcent catch by Brady. Shattky made his best, score of the season by recording 32. Ball, bowling very steadily, took seven wickets for 52. In their second innings United could only make 47, McNab being top scorer with 20. Wilkins was the destroying agent, having the flne avearge of sr\ for 22. Methodist scored 47 in their flrst innings, the wickets being eveniy divided between Boyle, Brimmer and Mahony. Play and Players. , Rouse, Giorgi and Brimmer showed that by using their feet and attacking the bowling the. runs can be made on the Cornwall Park wickets in their present condition. All three. players woifld have been very close to a century apiece.if the grass had be6n cut in the outfield. Once again both matehes started late. Considering that no travelling is done by any team, this shows a weakness on the part of the captains in not having their teams in the field at the correct starting time. The writer hopes that the captains of each team will do his best to rectify this faul"..
