ST. MATHEW'S GUILD HOLDS ANNUAL, MEETING
The annual meeting of St'. Malthcw 's Guild of l-ellowsiiip was held. iu Ihe church hal'l yesteruay afterhoou, and opcned with a prayer led by the vicuf Canon C. Mortimer-J oues. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with tlic relatives oi' the late Rt. icov. • JLL. W. Wiiliams, Bishop of Waiapu. Canon Mortimor-Jones tcok tlie chair at tlie meetmg, and the prosident aua gecretary, iUrs Barton Jdoubs, and AJ rs H. de JJenne, ivere also present. The anuual report, whicli rvas read by Mrs de IJenne, suowed that during tlie year guild members Lad beeu Aery active, se\ erai new members had joined, and meetings were held three times a month, witn an average attendanhe of abo-ut 4U. . , • Cratttude was expressed to Mrs J. C. Tossvdll for ihe gi.eat trouble she had taken and the tuue spent • in njaking arrangements for the very sufcessfui guild garden party and sale. Many interestmg ta'lks had been given during the yeart and members had helped in many way — bahdage-rolling. for the Melanesiah mission, collecting a parcei for the Makogai lepers, making tunics for the children 's hbmes-aud quilts T'or : the social welfare committee to disr tribute. ' ' ' V The thanlcs of the guild were , exteuded to Mrs L. J. Haryey* fo'r giving the ' members* a ' very iiapvfy 'garden party, aiid- also to _ Heaconess Holmes, for her Kelp auring-'the year, and also, to the tea coiiimit'tee. ' . The iinuncial state'm'ent for the year was read, and a'lso the hnaneial' statement for the sale of work. These. and the report were a'dopted, a'nd Canon Mortimer-Jones congratulated the guild on their successful'year.' The vicar also paid tribute to' the 'wouderful' work doiie by the president, MnS .Barton Itobbs, and ibe secretary, Mrs it. de Denne, who had made the year 'so happy and ^ succcssf ul. . The eleetlon of Ine president and secretary t'hen took pluce and resulted as follows:- — President;. Mrs Barton Hobbs; isecretary, Mrs W. A. Bryant. It was decided to elect the comjnittee at the lirst meeting next year, "which will be held on the third Tuesday in February. .... Be'fore afternoon tea was' handed round Mrs F. J. Hull,- on behalf of the welfare committee,. thanked the guild members for making quilts .for the depot, mentioning that it was the only Chyrch guild which did so,. and their effort was much appreciated.
