REPORTING ACCIDENTS
Hastings Farmer Ordered To Pay Court Costs For failing to notify the police of an accident in which a pedestrian had been injured, Hugh D. Buriis, a farmer, of Twyford^ was convicted and ordered to pay costs by Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Hastings Magistrate ;s Court yesterday afternoon. Defendant pleaded not guilty on the grounds that the injured man, who had a small cut on the hand, had said he was not hurt. Defendant said he had asked the young man he knocked down if he was hurt, and was told that he was not hurt. He had a out on his hand, but declined to be taken to a doctor or driven home. Two days later the man had still said he was unhurt. "I'll treat it as a misunderstanding, " said the Bencli. "The position is that we have to furnislx an accident statistic fornx and we canaot fill it in witfyout the information," said Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer after he had affirmed this statement. "I would not ask for a penalty," he added. Defendant was ordered to pay costs oaly.
