H.B. JOCKEY CLUB
Programme for Summer Meeting NQMINATIONS NEXT WEEK The programme for the summer meeting of the Hawko's Bay Jockey Club, which takes place on january 1 and 3, 1938, has been drawn up, with a substantial increase in stakes. The maiden event the first day is of £100 and will be run over five and ahalf furlongs. On the second day, with the first day's maiden winner not barred, tlie stake is of the same value but the distance six furlongs. This is a handicap. Highweights replace the hurdle raccs. On both days the value of the prize money is £100, and the distance one and a-quarter mile, Outside the maiden races hacks have four races set aside for them, two six and two nine furlong races, each carrying £100 stake money. Again £100 prizes are offered for the juvenile events, which are confined solely to two-year-olds, with the distance five and a-half furlongs each day. The "open" company horses are catered for with the New Year Handicap, £ 15Q, 1£ mile, the first . day, and the President's Handicap the second day, run over a furlong less, but of the same value. The sprinting racesare worth £125, and are run over three-quarters of a mile. After much deliberation, the committee decided that the minimum weight in all events, excepting the maidens and high,, eights, will be 7.7, the reason being that witli so many meetings at this time of the year joelceys may be at a premium, but the 7,7 minimum still nieans that the apprentices can claim. their respective allowanees. o-tominations for all events close with the secretary, Mr A. E. Wishart, Queen street, Hastings, on Tuesday, December 14, at 8 p.m.
