CAPTAIN U. T. G. WIDERSTROM
The death occurred on Saturday of Captain .TJno Thunei Gideon Widerstrom at the age of 81 years. The late Captain Widershrom was born in Finland 82 years ago, of Swedish parents, and brought np to the sea from boyhood. He cbmmanded various vessels and sailed under the British flag for 15 years and under the American flag for five years. For a number of years he was engaged in the inter-colo'nial trade commanding the" Mary Wadley and aftcrWards the Eendle Hill, and. was one of the best known master mariners trading to Napier. ' He sold out his interests in.tlie latter vessel in the. year 1895 and purehased his sail and tent-making, and ship chandlery business at Port Ahuriri. The late Captain Widerstrom was a Freemason and an Oddfellow for many years. He leaves behind five grown-up chilj dren, Mr, Syd. Widerstrom (Napiet), Mrs. O. Weston (Auckland), Mr; F. W. Widerstrom (Whakatu), Mrs. I. Husheer (Napier) and Mrs. A. Henderson (Greenmeadows) ,
