Auckland Wharves 7 MORE AFFECTED "This Breaking of Rules Can Not be Tolerated" EMPLOYERS' ATTITUDE
(By Telearaph— 1
AUCxLLAJND, This Day. The trouble caused! by tlie dispute connected with the handling of Waiana' s cargo is rapidly extending, seven vessels which came into port during the week-end becoming automatically affected in addition to those previously awaiting workers. Tho only call made for labour .this morning was for the Waiana, and, for the third time in succession, it met with no response. As the Waiana has been declared a preference ship, ua labour is available for the other vessels apart from those which hadi commenced handling cargo before the dis. pute arose. "The position on the waterfront mains the same," stated Captain. R. &, Lewis chairman of the Port of Auckland Shipping and Stevedores' Association, following a meeting of Jhat body to-day, At that meeting, his statemeaat prooeeds, "it was reaffirmed that» as the rules of the Waterfront Bureau were agreed to both by the employers and the employees, they must be adhered to, The action of the men engaged for the Waiana for 6 p.m. on Thursday in accepting their discs and then deciding at an unauthorised meeting that they would not tum-to until eight o'clock the following morning was entirely unconstitutional, and this breaking of rules can not be tolerated "It cannot be too strongly stresaed for the benefit of the general publio that the employers' action is taken as a stand against the unconstitutional measures of what they have reason toi believe is a small section of the Waterside Workers' Union."'
