Detecttves left Auckland to investigate shortly after the ineident had been reported by telephone. but it is uuderstood that no clue has so far been obtained. The cowbails on the farm are close to the road. and Mr Sandin had his back to the road while he and a farmhand were yarding the cows. Mr Sandin is making satisfactory progress. Later: It is believed htat a possible explanation is tbat the bullet ricocheted from the pea-rifle of a man who was shooting rabbits about 800 yards from Mr. Sandin' s cowyard.
