I AUCELAND, Last Night, ■ Under ideal conditions, the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateu? Cycling Association decided thp first New Zealand trials for the British Empire Games QU Saturday afternoon and evening. An exceptionally high standard of racing was witnessed in the unpaced 1000 metres time trial event. No fewer than four riders succeeded IU registering times withiu the previous New Zealand Tecord fif 1.16 2*5- The last xider to taka the track for this event was R. Ulmer, of Wellington, who rode the distance in lmin. 14sec»» tQ establish a new Dominion record and beat the Olympic record by oue second. J. H. GiUbanke (Auckland) was aecond in lmin. 15 2-5sec., while T. Roe (Wellington) and E, L, G. Hughes (Auckland) dead-heated for third m 1mm. 16 l-5sec. Three match Taces to find the wmner of the 1000 metres sprint resulted in R. T. Taylor (Auckland) defeating GR. Giles (Canterbury) by two to one. The ten-mile paced raee was wcm by A. G. Patriek (Auckland), with M. P. Byrnes and E. L. G. Hughes (both oi Auckland) second and .third reapective !y. ^
