"LEAGUE SHOULD DECIDE"
LONDON, Dec. 2. The High Commissioner for New Zealand, Mr. W. J. Jordan, when ihterviewed by the Australian Associated Press, said: "The League of Nations, to which the mandatory eountries fave answerable, is the' only propdi body which can consider claims for the returix of colonies^ We have separated the Pcace Treaty from the Covenant of the League, and if the dissatisfied countries return to the League and reason out their -claims satisfaetiou may be rcaehed, just as under the settlement of • Antioch and Alexandretta. . "The efforts being made to reConcile differences have led to the realisation that a people must be allowed to expand and to trade, even as Britain has necessarily gone beyond her shores for the settlement of her people. "There would be a far greater willingness to allow the nations^ to expand if it were nOt for their warlike attitude, Which has resulted in a suspicion that. they might use the regaine.d territory for military pu^dses. : Tha# ia true of the present situation, I know, however, from my own contacts on the Continent with diplomats and politicians, that there is a genuine desire for peaee, and that a grave fear of War is behind the building up of armaments. "Diplomatic circles are agreed that the European situation is easier than last year, and I believe a general understanding can soon be reached."
