Not To Be Held Until Februaiy

-WAIPUKURAU, Last Night, The proposal to hold a sehool excursion to Napier before Ohristmas was dropped by the Waipukurau School Cmmmittee after a long discussion at its monthly meeting last night. It was decided to hold it instead in the second week of February next year. A special meeting is to be held in January to fix thed ate. "We are placed in a difficulfc position about this matter," said the chairman, Mr C. F. Haycock, "for the 'mov6r of the motion to hold the excursioa before Christmas is not present to? night." "It seems that nobody in town wants the excuraion, ' ' said Mr J. A. Chambers, "They are all afraid somebody might spend a couple of shillings outside the town. But I don't cave about them, I am concerned about the children, whom 1 feel need it. There are children who never get out o£ Waipukuran except on a school excursion; 75 per cent of the children do not leave the town in the. whole of the school hoiidays. Their parents cannot alford to take them away, so they ' run tho streets.all the time. Napier is the be^.^ place for ihe children to go. There are facilities there for 'playing, and tho 30,000 Club takes a wonderful interest in them, ' Mr Haycock suggested holding the excursion in March, but other members were keen to have it before Christmas, until the lieadmaster, Mr V. Parsons, explained that it could not be held titi 3 year on. account of the lateneas of the examinations. It was then agreed fo hold it in February. Application is to be made to tho Hawke 's Bay Education Board for a grnnt towards the finishing of - the sports area at the secondary school, ainl put it in a condition for playing upon. A medal for presentation to the du\ and a prize for the runner-up weife authorised.
