Children's Eyes Affected at Waipukurau D0CT0R TO BE CONSULTED
(From
WAIPUEUKAU, Last Night. _ A number of pupils at the Waipukurau School are at present suffering frpin serious eye trouble brought about by the glare from the concrete in front of the primary school, it was reported at the meeting of the school committee to-night. The committee has madfe repeated efforts to have this glare remedied, but without success. "I have one boy under the doctor with his eyes, and unless something is done I shall take both my children away from the school, said Mr E. Sayliss. "Numbers of other parents are in the same position. " Mr C. F. Haycock said that he had a child whose eye3 had suffered, apparently from the same cause. The headmaster, Mr V. Parsons, pointed out that two of the teachers wore eoloured glasses, but even with these they could not avoid the glare. "The committee should force the Education Board 's hand," said " Tvlr Sayliss. "If the board will not do anything for us we must go over its head." Mr Parsons suggested that members should meet the school doctor when she visited the school next week^ and take up the matter with her, as she could give greater assistance than anyone else. "You cannot force the board to do anything," said Mr J. A. Chambers. It was decided that the seeretary, Mr Sayliss, and the chairman, Mr Haycock, should maet the school doctor on her next visit to the School.
