New Club Formed at Otane ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING

OTANE, Last Night. A meeting convened for the purpose of asccrtaining the amount of snpport likely to he accorded a project to form a bowling club in Otane was held in the Jibrary room last night. There was a large attendance, and Mr R. Rust, who presided. explained the aims and o'bjects of the meeting, - Judging by the entkusiasm displayed the success of the yenture would ap* pear to be a fotegone conclusion. Tho tennis club notified its willingness to give a po'rtion of its groupds for a green, and Mr, J. H. August generously offered to donate, free of all charge, a quarter-acre section adjoining. Tlus will ensure ample gro.und being: available for a green and all club requirements. It was unanimojisly decided by those prespnt to fprm a> club, to -be known as the Otane Bowling Club. Mr J. H. August was elected president, Mr Q, Voyce secretary, and Messrs B. Bust, J. and B. Britten, T. Roach, J. MaeDougall and A. Arnott, the committee. Mr Rust was elected chairman. All pre* sent enrolled as members, and it was decided to endeavour to bring the nuni* ber up to sixty. With the .subseriptions and other anticipated assistance, it will be possible to make a start. preparing the ground almost innnediately, with the object of hiaving the green in readinpss for play next season.

An offer froin Mr J. P. Smith, Napier, to supervise the laying down aad formation of the green was enthusiastically received, as were also invitations from the Hastings, National 3ervice and Waipawa clubs, to the foundation members to uso their green this season to acquire the fundamentals ot the ancient game. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr RusJ f Or his services as convenor and chairman closed a most successful meeting.
