"PICK A STAR."

"Pick a Star" screens finally to-night at the ROg^nt Theatre, Apart from any other consider^tion, the appearance of "SaratogaiJ at the Regent Theatre to-morrow will be , bound to mako that theatre the Mecca for all lovers of the late Jean Harlow, in that the picture gives her last fecorded appearance in the world of romance to whieh she had given so much distinction through the medium of her periormahces with Clark Gable ltt "China Seas," "Hold Your Man," "Wife versus Secretary" and other stories of that kind. It is common knowledge that the lovely actress was sticken with fatal illness after having played a portion of the picture, and that her role was completed by an under-study. The public is aware that the part has been " doubled" in some of the-sccnes, but so cleverly has this change been handled that the most critical will have their doubts abotit just where the "double" comes in. Combined with a fifst-class supporting programnie, "Saratoga" affords entertainment whieh does not in any way disappoint, for it maintains the story interest right to the last moment, providing drama, comedy and race thrill in the most attractive of settings. The intrigues of lovely women and virile men, with highly exciting gambles at stake and a wealth of laughable incidents, gradually work up to an intensely tnrilling finale, with Jean Harlow, Clark Gable, Una Merkel_ and. Erank Harvey featured in striking portrayals. It is essentially a sporting romance of lively action. "Saratoga" tells the story of the daughter of a rich horse oWner and a bookmaker, her father's friend, whom she hates and fights, then loves. In-. trigues over "ringing' * bets, plot and . counterplot behind the- scenes in the paddock, and finally, the sensational racing climax worked out on a new dramatie twist, keep the picture packed with action. Against tliis action the romantic story is developed.
