An Appreciated Gift

Sir, — I noticed with pleasure . that a suggestion was made through your valuable paper that a street should be named after those generous donors Mr. and Mrs. F. Hutchinson, of Rissington, who kindly gave to us as a scenic re» serve that lovely bush at Puketitiri, also the property that surrounds it. Now, Sir, we cannot over-estimate the vaiue of this to our younger generation, and I understand that our worthy Government has this matter in hand to.- make access. to . this , lovely bush in the matter of tracks, etc. May I suggest that, our members for Napier and Hawke's Bay, Mr Barnard and Mr Oullen, he asked to assist in recording our appreciation of this gift, and that this suggested street be called Hutchinson Avenue. . May I suggesct, too, that it be planted with all native trees and shrubs, and also that an up-to-date bungalow should be built on this avenue as a home for these generous people, Mr. and Mrs. F. Hutchinson. The Government perhaps could see their way clear to do something of this kind, but of course we must get the approval of Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson first. While these trees and shrubs are growing I am sure it would dolight the donors to show once a week to a few of our boys and girls those plants and their names. 1 am sorry to say there are not many of our boys and girls that know the names of our beautiful native plants and trees. Mr. Hutchinson, 1 believe, has a very splendid small museum which would still be added as part of this avenqe, for 1 am sure this would - delight the hearts of our young "New Zealanders. Sir, this is only a suggestion, and 1 do wish some better pen would come t0 my assistance. — Yours, etc., "A NATIVE OF N.Z." Hastings, Dec. 2, 1937;
