A MAYOR'S DAIMLER

The Mayor cf (Japetown has taken delivery of a Daimler state limousine built specially for the late King George V. A serious split in tlie City Council has thus been averted. A month or two ago it was proposed to buy a Mayoral ear for about £3000. There was an immediate storm of protest, many couneillors pointing out that neither the Administrator of the Province, the Prime Minister, nor even Hitler or Mussolini had such an expensive ear. The matter was referred back to the relevant committee, which solved the, problem by buying the late King's car for £600 plus the trade-in value of the Mayor's old ear.
