Vorking of Ship at Auckland OWNERS ALLEGE BREACH
(By TeleRraph-
AUCKLAND, Last Night. Members of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union, after accepting employment on the ship, decided this morniug not to work the Union Steam Ship Co's inotorsliip Waiana on her arrival from Portland late this afternoon, but to begin at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. Regarding the unionists' action as a breach of the rules of the Auckland waterside labour bureau, the shipownfers have decided to call for fresh labour iu the morning. The Waiana berthed at 5.30 and nine gangs were engaged at the 10 a,m. labour call to begin work at 6 p.m. As a result of the Workers' deeision to postpone the staTt until the morning, no work was done to-night, the Waiana being the only ship affected. No explanation of the unionists' move was available and no indication has been given of the result of the call for fresh labour to be made by the employers in the morning. The award rate of pay for work between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. is time and a-half, equivalent to 4/- an hour.
