HASTINGS WICKETS
"Deplorable Gondition," Says United Club COMPLAINT TO ASSOCIATION "I am directed by my committee to bring to your notice the deplorable condition of the Hastings wickets," etated a lettor from the secretary of the United Cricket Club to the it.B. Cricket Association 'e management committee meeting on Wodnesday evening, ,when an emphatie protest was lodged against the state of aifairs at Cornwall Park. The letter continued: ^'Theae wlekets, in the oplnion of our stnior players are quite unfit for play, and it ie utterly impossible to play correct cricket on the wickets as they are at present. "My committee is of the opiniou that no further games should be played on the Hastings ground until such time as euitable wickets are provided. ' ' "No team has made 120 runs on those wickets this season," commented the chairman, Mr E. M. Chadwick. Mr V. N. Hawke pointed out tlxat the preparation of the wickets had been commonced late. The wickets were improving all the time and would soon be in good order. The matter required further Investigation before the committee committed itself, eaid Mr Chadwick. Mr C. W. Beuth: We must be cam tious and not go over the heads of tbo Hastings Sub-Association. It was agreed on Mr Beuth 's motion ,-that a copy of the letter should be sent to the sub-associatxon, and that members of the committee should inspect the wickets. "We can't overlook tho fact that we are spoiled with the excellent stata of the wickets in Napier this season," 8
