STATE THEATRE

"AS YOU TiTKFI IT." There 's a surprise in store for all movie enthusiasts who do not include Shakespeare in their list of favourite movie authors. For, screening at the State Theatre to-night, Elisabeth Bergner brings to the screen "As You Like It," the most joyous of all romances and the gayest of all Shakespeare's plays. Advance re ports herald "As You Like It" as one of the greatest entertainments ever filmed. There is hilarious laughter at the escapes of Miss Bergner as Bosalind, tender romance in the love of Kosalind and Orlando, excitement and thrills in the duels, and combats with which the pieture abounds, spiendor in the lavish court scenes, and wild mirth and merriment at the drollery of those clowning companions, Touchstone and Jaques. Miss Bergner, as Eosalind, falls in love with Orlando. The latter's rascaHy brother, Oliver, informs the reigning duke (a usurper, ruling in place of S.)salind's father) that Orlando is a loyalist, and the duke banishe's him. Kosalind, in the guise of a boy, and her cousin Celia, follow Orlando to the Forest of Arden, where, under the greenwood trees, the disguised Eosalind meets Orlando. Komance — merry, madcap, teasing, taunting, gay and glorious — vies with laughter — robust, rollicking, gusty, lusty, hilarious and uproarious — as the pining Orlando tells the disguised Kosalind of his love for the fair maid.
