WATER SUPPLY CUT OFF
Our Own Correspondent.)
Repairs to Pipes at Waipukurau
(From
WAIPUKUBAU, Last Night. The water supply in the business part of the town was cut off for the greater part of the day to-day to allow of repairs to pipes to be carried out. This work was done at the intersection of Buataniwha street and Porangahau road (outside the Post Office) w>eTe a gang of workmen was employed in dig ging up part of the roadway. ? The milky oolour which has been present in the water from the borougn supply on' a number of occasions lately is largely duo to leaky joints, although rnost people attribute it to soine mmeral content in the water. The milki-^ ness is caused by air being drawn into the pipes under pressure, and it is not at all harmful. Close examiuation of a glass of such water reveals elfervescence in the liquid, but if it is allowed to stand the diseolouration soon di3appears ; . Some inconvenience to-day was caused by the interruption of the water service, but it being half-day the demand from business premises was small. Other parts of the town, however, were aifected also. The s.upply was restored shortly after four o'cloc*. when those who turned on their taps were surprised at the violent spluttering which continued until tke air imprisoned in the pipes had been reieasufl. "We have heard a great deal from the Borough Couneil and the Powd* Board about our water supply lately, and we certainly. wondered what this latest move meant,55 remqrked one householder.
