COLONEL GIBBON DEAD
Tribute to Services in War-Time trained n.z. services (Eeceived 1, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 30. The death has oecurred of Coionel Charles Monk Gibbon, whom Coionel J. L. Sleeman pays a tribute »n The Times "as one who sacrificed a change in active service in war-time in order to train' those required to ewell a smaJl army into a large one. The heavy losses sustained by the New Zealand division could never have been made good but for the efforts. of those like Colonei Gibbon, who performed his nncongenial task with splendid courage and astounding energy." ' Coionel Charles Monk Gibbon, C.MG, was Director of Military Operations, and General Staff Officer of the New Zealand Military Fprcos in-April, 1914, appointed Chief of the General Staff in September, 1914, and General St-;ff Officer in 1919. He retired in 1920. \
