King's Birthday Legislation h0l1day-pay an0mai.y
(From Our
WELLINGTON, Last Night. The anomalous position whereby cet tain employers might have been requir ed to pay special holjday rates to theii employees for work done on Decembei 1'3, the actual date of the Kmg'l Birthday, is to he rectified by eaiiv Jn> gislatipn, according to a statemenl made in an interview this evening by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M J. Savage. , „ • Difficulty has arisen frojn the f$c| that it lias been decided practically throughout the British Empire to^ observe the King's Birthday as a holiday On June 9, instead of on the^ actual date, which is regarded as being to® close to the period of exceptidnal business activity immediately preceding Uhristmas. " In notif ying the change some timo before June 9, the Government inidicated that the date for the holiday observance would be fixed by law. "We have investigated the position,^ said the Prime Minister this evening, "and we find that the neqessity for validating legislation has been overlooked. However, that will be rectified and tho. necessary legislation will be introduced and passed before Parliament adjourni for the Christmas recess. As we propose to finish the first part of th® session not later than December 10, there can be no question of difficulty regarding the dates."-
